1. Is racism something you experience or have experienced in your home country?
- I have not experienced racism in China. There is almost no racism. We are both yellow race and have a good relationship among all nations. We are friendly to foreigners who are in different racial types with us, too. But sometimes urban people discriminate rural people.
2. Do you believe the USA is a country where the instances of racism are more rare than common?
- Actually no. I always think that American white people look down upon black people because I have seen a lot of news about that. But in the week that I have been in Moorhead, I find the people here are enthusiastic and kind to everyone without racism.
3. What does race/color discrimination involve?
- I think race discrimination is not limited to the discrimination in skin colour but in a specific group. For instance, urban people discriminate rural people and native discriminate outsiders.
4. Does the concept of diversity include only racial differences?
- No, I do not think so. Diversity also includes cultural sifferences. People with different culture may have conflict sometimes.
5. Based on the movie Crash, why do people become violent and biased toward others? Why is their prejudice based on racial or ethnic bias?
- In movie Crash, the story was happened in Los Angeles which is a multiracial and multicultural city. People there have discrimination in different race. I think it is a problem left over by history. Since ancient time, black people have always been poor and sold to be slaves. Racial discrimination is deeply ingrained in the USA.

Hi, Laura.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree that discrimination is not limited to the color of your skin, and it often happens that people who are racially alike and look "the same" discriminate each other within the same community.
As far as your last question is concerned, can you provide a more specific answer and explain why people are biased to each other?
Thanks!
People often only look at the world from their own point of view without transposition thinking. Their idea about the judgment is always based on some of the events in the past, especially the idea of racial discrimination. For instance, the wife of the procurator hid behind his husband by the light of nature when she saw two black people were coming. That made the black people thought she discriminated them so they pulled their guns to rob the car. Maybe black people did some bad things in the past and they were much poorer than white people so white people have the discrimination of black people and it makes black people feel hurt and they have prejudice of white people gradually.
