1) Do Moorhead residents and Norwegian Vikings have anything in common?
- They have same history, culture and belief because most Moorhead residents are descendants of Norwegian Vikings.
2) What dream did Robert Aps try to fulfill and why? What was his rationale?
- Sailing a Viking ship to Norway because he studied books about Vikings and wanted to come back home. He studied Norwegian history at Concordia College and based the design of his ship on the Gokstad burial ship.
3) Did Aps approach his project professionally? What steps were taken?
- Yes, he approached his project professionally. After one year of planning, Aps first carefully selected the trees used for the ship (logging), then he leased a large enough building to be the ship yard and the the ship was come into construction. After the christening, Aps crewed thirteen people included himself. At last before the voyage, they trained to be prepared.
4) How did the Minnesotans support and implement the Hjemkomst project?
- The Hawley City Council purchased the building Leslie Welter Potato Warehouse and leased it to Bob and Rose Asp to be the ship yard. Thirteen people joined to be sailors.
5) Reason the importance of the Hjemkomst project in the life of Moorhead community as well as its internationals significance.
- The Hjemkomst project brought American culture and tradition to Norway which was good for the development of cultural diversity. It also promoted the world’s cultural communication and integration. In addition, the members’ spirit of hard working and being indomitable is worth carrying forward around the world.
